When renovating your home, employing a builder to carry out construction work can be very daunting, no matter the size of the project. Here are some tips on how to choose the perfect builder for your renovation:
See some examples of their work
By looking at previous projects that they have completed, you will get an idea for the quality of their work and it will give you a chance to speak to their previous clients to get their view on the builders performance.
‘Going out to tender’
It is important that you always get more than one builder to quote you project so that you can compare them against each other. Don’t always go for the cheaper option however, as cheaper is not always better!
Ask friends and family
Asking people that you know and trust for a recommendation is always a good start, however make sure that the people you ask, have had work done similar to what you are planning.
Ensure that you give the builders drawings and specifications that are as detailed as possible to allow them to give you the most accurate quote they can.
Do Not pay upfront
Never pay the full amount until the works is done and you are happy with the result. Paying upfront gives the builders less incentive to do the best job they can and are more likely to drag the project out for longer as they will be working on other jobs.
Communication is key
Communication is so important when working on a project to ensure that the process goes as smoothly as possible. Make sure that if you have any issues, you address them instantly to ensure the problem doesn’t continue or get an worse.
